Training for Reining...tips/pointers/book references?

Hello,
I wanted to start my horse, Buck, in reining. He's a Paint/TB/QH, but he's quick on his feet and very fast! I hoped to be able to show him next spring in maybe the novice reining class in a show or two, but that's flexible (and maybe impossible...?)
I'm pretty sure I know how to teach him to stop, spin...he needs to lope circles anyways.
Does anyone have any input? I'd really like to give this horse a better job and something to think about. Do you know of any books that are good for this?

Reining is really hard to teach without knowing how to do it. You can spend a lot of money on videos and still not get it. Your best bet would be at the very least is to find a trainer and take lessons on a finished horse. I would suggest sending your horse to a reining trainer to begin with. It is very very easy to mess a horse up trying to teach them and then vary hard to fix it.

Once you get the feel of what it should feel like there are a lot of good videos out there. Stacy Westfall has several. Shawn Flarida has several although his are more for the advance reiner not the beginner as they are more for polishing. All Dunning has several however I find them a bit outdated but still have some good info. They would not be the first ones I would recommend.

Find yourself a good trainer he/she will put you on the right track!
