    Tricks with Lia

I am so excited, I just have to post this...

So my sister was talking about getting some silhouette/sunset shots of me and my horse, and I thought it would be super neat if my horse learned to tuck her head in and raise and paw one of her front feet. So I chopped up some apples and carrots, grabbed my clicker, crop, and treat bag, and ran out to the field. About 10 minutes later, my mare was offering BIG BEAUTIFUL stretches and paws. I am so proud of her!! She is so smart. Once she gets what I'm asking, she starts showing off and making the tricks even better.

I've determined that she learns tricks in 4 stages. 1. She starts to understand the trick. 2. She gets a bit confused and unsure of what she's supposed to do. 3. The trick "clicks" (haha) and she starts offering it. 4. Practicing the trick over a longer period of time, fine tuning it, and keeping it fun.

Lia also knows how to smile on cue, and we're working on bowing down on one knee. (At one point today, she got confused and started smiling and was too cute.)

We still have a ways to go to perfect the trick, but I'll see about posting photos tomorrow and a description of how I taught the trick. :)

I love my clever girl! <3
