It's just, some days he does really well on a ride and other days he acts quite ornery. He has days where he will do everything I ask him to, but particularly when I bring my dad out to see the progress I've made, it's like he knows and then proceeds to act up!! Mostly the problem is that he does not want to go at more than a walk. Sometimes it is very difficult to get him trot/lope, just not all the time.
I need some advice at what might be causing the mood swings. Could it be the weather/summer heat affecting him or does he just need more consistent and aggressive corrections? It is confusing when he has good days and then just seems like a completely different horse. And usually his good days are when my trainer is present, but I would like to know how to handle him without her watching.
Some extra info: Indy is a Missouri Fox Trotter. He is a good size pasture horse, so he gets to eat his fill and (I suppose) does not care to be exercised. Perhaps this could be why he gets a little stubborn sometimes? Help appreciated!! Just need some outside opinions.
