Hehe, sorry no "new" pics, my camera met an untimely accident this past weekend involving a bachelorette party and a go kart. But I have some pics from our last trail ride a couple weeks ago! We've been in the midst of a heat wave, and it's been closing in on +40 celsius for the last while so we got up at 5:30am to go trail riding! It was pure BLISS - we did the almost 8km trail, and we were back by 8am and back to the air conditioned house before it ever got hot!
UPDATE 1 - TYING
Problem "unofficially" solved. I'm hesitant to start celebrating yet, but it poured rain all weekend so I finally had to bring her inside to tie her to the arena wall. I left her a little longer then normal so she had breathing room, and even in the midst of the other horses freaking out, the polo people partying in the aisle, and the tractor coming in to clean stalls, she handled it like a pro. Actually, a little TO pro - we brought them in soaking wet on Sunday from a driving rain, and apparently she got a little tired of standing in the delightful sand because I turned my back for 1 minute and she LAID DOWN and tried to ROLL. I very calmly but quickly walked over to her and smooched for her to get back up which she calmly did and gave me the "WHAT DO YOU EXPECT ME TO DO?!" look. We turned them loose after that and holy moses, I have NEVER seen that group of girls go so loco. Jynx pulled some truly impressive airs above the ground!
UPDATE 2 - LEFT SIDE PRESSURE
Progress! We've started some ground work to get her working well off her forehand, and turning on her haunches to my pressure on her neck or side. She's still sluggish about it, but getting quicker. We've given up on the wall because now she's having panic attacks about it - she's associated the wall with getting booted one to many times and just can't even focus. I can get her to do a complete turn on the forehand without moving her planted front leg off right leg pressure! I am so darn proud of her. And we're getting some sideways movements and a little yield working off the left, but she gets upset easily and whips her head around and bump my boot. I'm really wondering if she doesn't have some rib pain going on? I'd expect that to not last long though. We're keeping it brief and it's going well, we haven't had a massive blow up fight over it for the last couple rides now so I'll just keep working at it.
In other news, her tying has gone SO well, she's halfway trained to ground tie now. It's hilarious. I'm pretty sure she's just to lazy to bother moving, but I can leave her at the rail and she'll just stand and wait for me. We've also made IMMENSE progress on her moving while I mount and her canter cues. Oh and her nipping is done as well, and she can even be handfed treats now without getting stupid about it.
Anyway, cookies for anyone who reads the entire thing and some pics of our last trail ride together!
Side shot - she'd gained about 30lbs but seems to have lost it again. I'm not worrying to much unless she starts losing even more.
The crack of dawn!
Me and Ashley
More of Eve's ears
GAH, the blinding sun!
Yes I am lopsided. Yes I am aware I'm lopsided. I actually honest to god have a leg that is "several inches" shorter then my other one and my hips are screwed up. It's a work in progress with my chiropractor.
LOL, my camera doesn't like dawn.
Then we had fun - she was TERRIFIED of that itty bitty stick, and I had to get quite INSISTENT that I was scarier then a twig...
...so she LEAPT over it and tried to bolt...
...and got shut down pretty hard.
She get's over it easy, haha.
