Update to Ransom

Ok, I had to move my horse because my trainer got injured and was not able to train him. I moved him closer to my home and now I get to see him as often as I like. She had started him in June and I was still not on him! I took him to the lady I bought him from and she said she would train him for just feed and hay! He is doing awesome! He has only been there less than a week and I got on him last night, it felt so great! She uses alot of Clinton Anderson's techniques. She did alot of flexing and sacking out with him and then I repeated everything she did. He is so smart and was totally focused on us. My dtr even sat on him last night! I will probably be riding him next week! Just thought I would give everyone an update! I will take pics next time and post them. Also, he is half-arab, do I need an arab tree saddle? I ride western.

Howdy, neighbor! Sorry to hear about your trainer's accident/injury - but it sounds like it's working out for the best after all. As for a saddle, it's hard to say what you need. It depends more on the build of your horse than his breeding. I have a who-knows-what mare and a skinny paint gelding (who is gaining weight beautifully). My western saddle actually works pretty well on both of them. It has full quarter horse bars. You might need to take some heavy guage wire and form it to your horse's back and use it as a guide for what size saddle will fit him. Hopefully, the wire will retain it's shape long enough for you to find the saddle.

It's no wonder that horse trainers get a bad name. I would not admit to "training" a horse for two months that I still wasn't riding. It sounds to me like you were getting scammed anyway. Groundwork is one thing but eventually you have to actually ride the horse. I'm glad you found somone who could do that for you.

Yay! It's such an awesome feeling to get on your horse for the first time. Glad to hear it's working out for all of you!

Yeah, I don't know exactly what the deal was. I was getting really frustrated and paying all that money . Before I left she said, " You won't be riding him for a while". Strange how I have been on him in less than a week since moving him. Oh well, live and learn. I can't wait to hit the trails really soon and take him out the arena. Gonna try some cattle sorting this winter. Thanks everyone for the kind feedback!
