    Using his bum!

So yesterday my horse used his lil QH butt like he has never used it before. It was like riding on a cloud.

He's been doing it off and on after good warmups, but nothing ever like he did yesterday. I didn't have to ask for it at all, he did it completely on his own right from the beginning, so I'm assuming that's a good sign.

Should I just keep on doing what I have been doing with him or is there other stuff I should incorporate into riding now?

If it ain't broke, why change it?

The moment you get the right answer, remember what you asked to get it again.

There is always lots you can do to incorporate exercises to encourage and aid - but remember that a horse that doesn't have developed muscle, will have brief moments of good movement, as long as they can carry themselves comfortably.

Just remain consistant. Remain persistant and praise, praise, praise.

Lol. All I know is that he did it with absolutely no rein pressure. I don't remember doing anything specific to ask for it at all. XD

I will definitely keep on doing what I have been, I just wondered if I should throw in some serpentines or whatnot.

Serpentines always help. So do downward and upward transitions. So do roll backs, and backing up pushing into trot.

Another great exercise is - start trotting to the right. Halt at a chosen destination. Turn on the haunches until you are facing the opposite direction. Then push back into trot.

What are roll backs? I've heard of them but I never really knew what they are.

I think they are like figure eights? I've only seen them done on a lunge or long line, but im sure you can do them in saddle? Sorry don't know too much bout them.

No, they are turn on the haunches.

Have you ever seen reiners spin? That is a kinda roll back - it is where you are going in 1 direction, turn on the haunches to change direction.

Here is an example of a rollback.

Ignore the lameness in my boys feet - due to the vid, we were able to correct it thorugh changing the angles in his feet.
