    A wee victory?

Today it was nasty and raining out, then magically got sunny and bright. I was feeding horses with my rain poncho on, and got too hot so I hung it on the fence.

The wind came up, and blew the poncho right at the horses- plastered itself right over Maddies face- her entire head and neck were covered. I expected fireworks, but instead she just stood completely still, and let me walk over and take it off her. She then looked at me as if to say- "My goodness what was that??" and mooch for a treat.

I was just tickled! =) She has come so far from the terrified, wild, untouched yearling to an in your pocket afraid of nothing coming 2 year old.

Yay, one small step for man; one huge one for your horses. One day I was playing around in the indoor and I put down a huge tarp thinking Gunther would snort and freak. Nope, he looked at it and circled it once then he walked right onto it. I actually had to take it away because he started to rip holes into it. The next day I was getting a lesson and I told my trainer to put it down on the ground and he looked at me like I was crazy, Gunther just walked right over it. My trainer was amazed, I was like "yeah, we did it, what now?"

Isn't that kind of thing funny? When Smell first came here he was terrified of anything plastic that rattled---bags, tarps whatever. I hung plastic bags from the gates and a garbage bag from his stall door. In order to eat, he had to deal with the plastic. That fixed the bag problem really quick. I hung a tarp out between two posts and within a week both geldings were playing "matador" with it. They absolutely destroyed that tarp and seemed to have a great time doing it.
