Western Pleasure gaits

I showed Western Pleasure when I was young, just the walk/ trot class.

The horse I rode was my mom's, and she has a lovely slow jog and a lope gait. How can I teach that? My QH goes from walk, to fast walk, to trot, and then she'll trot as fast as she can before going into a canter. How do I get her to slow down without changing the gait? Or is it one of those things that some horses have and others don't?

Some horses are more inclined naturally to move with the slow walk/job/lope of western pleasure, but even so , it has to be taught. I don't know how that is taught, so I will leave that to the WP people.
