Yesterday evening it was absolutly glorious weather here so I decided to school Reeco. He had no lungeing, no chemical help and there was anouther horse in the arena but he was absolutly ACE!!! He walked and trotted in a lovely little outline, really stretching into my hands, working from behing beautifully, almost saying "come on mummy we can do better then that!"
Then I took him down the non spooky side of the school and popped him into canter, no fuss, no flap, I cantered 2 20m circles on his good rein and he started offering to come into my hands!!!
I then changed the rein and he did exactly the same on his bad rein ( the side that had the injury is taking longer to work on, its not unexpected) except after the second circle I took him large (in canter) and we cantered past the spooky hedges (complete with hissing geese in them) and appart from 1 "NORMAL" young horse spook (the lovely levitating sideways spook) he didnt worry about it.
It used to be that he would bolt if anything spooked him, worried him or stressed him. The canter transition was cause for bolting, Cantering was cause for bolting, geese were cause for bolting, heck the other horse in the arena would have been cause for bolting!
I am sooooo made up with my pony!
For those that don't know Reeco's story it is explained on this thread:
