    What is a spanish walk?

I see lots of training videos about teaching horses to spanish walk, but can't really tell what the goal of it actually is? When I look it up all I can find are horses extending their front legs at a standstill, and I don't really get why it's called a spanish walk. Is there supposed to be more to it or is it just a trick?

Horses do walk when they do the Spanish walk and lift their front legs like they do at the stand still. I'm not an expert by any means! Lol The barn where I help our trainer at has an Andalusian in for training and she's teaching him the Spanish walk. It might be that they teach them to stay still and extend before adding in the walking, but hey, I might be backwards on that one! Me and the trainer I work with were both really surprised how easy it is to teach, really any horse can learn and I guess use it as a trick! :)

An interesting article on the topic: The Spanish Walk: classic exercise or circus trick? | The Works of Chivalry. Hope you take the time to read it, it sets a nice context for the exercise!
