A good way to get respect is hand grazing. Lead him through his own pasture and let him graze. MAKE him raise his head when you ask (say "head up" and tug upwards gentle as possible but, firm as necessary) and reward him by letting him get a few more bites of grass. I did this with my mare and now whenever I say head up she raises her head.
Horses control their body with their head so, if you have respect of listening with their head they will be more willing to respect with their whole body.


As previously stated...by earplugs and maybe a few extra for your neighbors :)
