Cool When to start jumping a horse!? Help!

Hi, I am thinking about leasing a horse at my barn and he is 4 years old. He is an Oldenburg and he has some training on the flat. He would need more work, but he has started in dressage. I was just wondering once he improves on the flat, what would be a good, safe age to start jumping him? Any answers are greaat!!!

General rule is to wait at least until they are 5. They are still growing and jumping can damage their growth plates among other things.

Other than trotting poles and cavalettis he would be best left for another year. These big warmblood horses are very prone to joint problems as they tend to develop faster in weight & build than the bone density and joints can keep up with & OCD is very common in them
Time taken now on establishing good basic ridden groundwork will make a better jumper of him in the long run
