Wireless communication system

I'm looking at putting together a system to use with my trainer so I can always hear her during my lessons. I know there are systems that exist, but they're $$$$ and I'm looking more for $$.

Any ideas?

Can't ride with a cell phone in any of my jeans pockets, I have no shirts with pockets (and would use that anyway in case it bounces out), and I refuse to wear a jacket with pockets when it's a heat index of 101 and humidity is 78%, lol.

I had actually briefly had the thought of using an armband for my phone and having the trainer just call me and talk to me through that while I wear earbuds. She pointed out a major flaw in my logic: There's zero cell reception anywhere inside the barn. No phone calls, no text messages, no data, etc.

Link didn't work.

That being said, $255 is considerably more than I'm looking to spend. That's $$$ to me (not the $$$$ for the "top o' the line" system, of course). I'm trying to stick to roughly $100-$150. I'm not particularly rich (lol) and I only get lessons 1/week.

Why doesn't your coach buy her own system?
I have an Eponaire and they aren't terribly expensive - and then all my students use it. It saves my voice and there's a lot less "WHAT?" getting yelled across the ring!!
If your coach is worried about the price, she can ask all her students to pitch in $20 and it will not be expensive.

It's not her looking into it, it's me. I'd like to buy it for myself so that I can always have it for my own personal use. The bonus would just be using it with my lessons now.

Yes, my point is if you can't afford one, maybe your coach should just get one as she is likely able to justify the cost better as she will get more use out of it.

Maybe now?

How about a set of small push to talk walkie talkies? It's probably more that you need to hear her than the other way around anyway, so that would work. You just need a way to secure them and to be sure it doesn't make your horse freak out.
