So Oliver has been cleared to start back to work! :)

This Friday is his first day back :) with him being five years old, under saddle only 9-10 months, had over a month off from being pretty sick with pneumonia. He was in antibiotics for two fill weeks, with penicillin to get him back up on his feet so to speak. It worked.

So back to my point/question
What should I expect with him coming back into work? I will be lunging him before I get on to let him get out his yah yahs,

I know he won't be back to where he was before he got sick but just would love some advice on bringing him back correctly, and safely.

I have an amazing trainer, I trust her, I have lots of horse experience but it never hurts to hear other people's input and how they might go about it.

Thanks

Lol thank you. My vet said today he could do a light walk trot canter. Just wondering what sort of exercises would be beneficial for him to start getting his muscling back, he is so ready to mpcome back to work! It will be hard to keep him in the recovery mode haha my trainer keeps updating me saying he's running around like a Banchee kicking up his heels and when ever she walks by his stall he whinnies at her lol

I would much prefer to walk a horse at least for 5 sessions before asking for trot and canter if it has been out of work for more than 3 weeks. Just an active, marching walk on a fairly long rein. Getting him stretching over the back and stepping through with the hind legs.
Gradually sprinkle some trot through, again on a fairly long rein, not long and low, but a long frame just asking for the back to stretch and swing and the horse to relax over the neck and through the poll and jaw.

Take it one day at a time, very gradually building up how much work you do until he is back in full work.
