Talking YAY breakthrough with Carolina!!!

So, in my previous thread, a poster suggested taking Carolina into the arena (where she always behaves) and working on her ground manners there.

For the last week, all I've done is groom her, feed her, and take her into the arena and just work on her ground manners. Once she was doing good in the arena, I took her to the cross ties. She stood still for 5 minutes! 5 WHOLE minutes!!!!

With her leading, I did use a stud chain a couple of times but only had to correct her gently. After that I took the stud chain off I lead her again and haven't had an issue! Not yet anyway lol.

I have even been able to get her to ground tie a few times!

She does get a bit anxious to get out to the field from her stall but soon as I put her halter on now she stops and waits til I'm ready to take her out.

So thank you! I know we've got a ways to go, but thank you for your help and advice and not making me feel like the worst horse-mum in the world.

Oh yay Congrats !
Can you fill me in on what a Stud chain is ? It might be use ful for me :)
Usually pepper is dragging me around, trying to and I have to use alot of strengh to keep her to stand, when I start putting a halter or something on her.
It might help with alot of ground manner issues im having !
How much did it cost you ?

Genevieve, that is awesome. You're on a role now, it sounds like the worst is over (though we always have further to go huh? ) I'm so glad she's getting her second chance with someone who is taking such good care of her! Congrats.

I know huh? One step forward for now lol!

Here's a stud chain. They might be called something else here in the US. Basically it's a lead rope with a chain at the end. You clip it to either one side or the normal spot on the halter that you would clip the lead, then you thread it through the offside, back over the top of the nose.

You can only give small corrections. As soon as you get the result, let off pressure. You don't want to be yanking on it. Here's a pic it's not my horse or picture but you get the idea. And you can get them on Dover Saddlery's website for about $10.
