    Question In your opinion

What makes a credible horse trainer. I understand a vast knowledge of horse basics and such would be a good thing to have. Are there schools out there for a person to become a horse trainer? Or is it more of a learn as you go type thing? I am interested in possibly becoming a trainer, but can't seem to find a school that doesn't have a bunch of flashy stuff on their web page.

Just buy load of DVDs from Parelli, or John Lyons, or whoever else, train all those tricks, pass certification and you'll be Level 1, or Level 2, or Level 25 PA certified. Or John Lyons certified. Although I don't believe in such junk.

But on serious side the best you can do is to get a position at the barn of the trainer you really like (as an assistant or working student). That will give you a good start. You can't learn it in school. You have to work together with the trainer to observe, learn, and ask questions. The more you work with different type of horses the more you learn as you go. And if you plan to run the facility later on it's more than just training - you have to have knowledge to handle financial stuff, barn chores, basic vet, farrier, etc.
