Cavalry horseback riding training..

I am amazed. Agile, strong horses, and how the hell none hurt themselves in those jumps?

Did you notice they maintained a forward balance even going down steep hills?

They did sometimes hurt both horse and rider, but not nearly as often as one would expect.

Watching the video, almost everyone kept a forward balance going down steep slides. It seems weird to me, but that was the way it was taught. It is one aspect of cavalry riding that I choose to ignore...but then, I have no intention of taking my horse thru terrain like that! There are times my 55 year old body looks at something and thinks, "Yeah...maybe 35 years ago!"

Some of the hunting videos taken in Ireland are very similar, not such deep ravines but a lot more mud!
