Finally! New Riding Video! | Schooling Paige - 15.9.2010

This answers the question, "Does Lee wear all those bracelets when she rides?"
    I do!

I have Paige to ride every Wednesday now. Regan was more than happy to have me exercise her for free, since we both get something out of the deal. If all goes well, I might even take her to a schooling show in the winter.
I've also decided to start hacking out after I ride her. She's pretty much a zero on the spook scale, and I've never really had a horse that I could hack without it either running off on me or scaring the hell out of me.

Anyways, this is the third addition to my Dressage Vlog. Enjoy! ((Warning about some swearing at the very end, apologies.))

The video description basically sums up what I thought of the ride:
    Quote:
You should know this face by now? Here's Paige, owned by Regan.
Today we schooled in a single jointed pelham with four-centimetre shanks.

I'm getting fitter and so is this horse - she's gained a bit of weight and lost some muscle in the past little while, we've noticed. But it's improving. I, on the other hand, am still going slow. I'm starting to see some of my muscle return, and I'm feeling a lot more reactive and coordinated since the head-injury.
Still working on centering myself in the sitting trot especially, and my legs and hands need lots of work!

Todays ride was not what I expected. The previous Wednesday she was absolutely brilliant, but when I got on today she was much less flexible and being a bit stubborn - especially to the right. She has some major hooks on her teeth, and is probably in a bit of pain, so I've been having to work more empathetically with her jaw. She's supposed to have her teeth done sometime in the next few weeks, though.
The main thing that we're focusing on with this horse is her adjustability. I'm starting some lengthening and shorting of gaits (not the same as extension and collection, kiitos). We worked on the in-gait transitions down the diagonal, and she was very good. She normally likes to tank on through the lengthenings and rush, and likes to walk when asked to shorten, but she is starting to understand.
Another thing I do is change up the way she is bending and where she is carrying her head. Counter-bending and exaggerating the bend really helps her a lot.

What really needs work is the canter. Transitions are the first thing - today she gave me some very good transitions to the left, but we fought for five minutes just to get one good one to the right. She transitions like a bad western pleasure horse mixed with a hot jumper - sideways and throwing her head about! But she settled and let me have a single good transition and I left her at that.
I ended the ride with some good stretching and I took her for a short bareback hack around the property afterwards - we took some nice pictures.
