Continuing to explore the concept of "less is more", my boy and I have started taking trail walks at liberty. The hi-viz is and the halter with the rope are there for when we reach a motorway on our way home - better be safe!
Very nice. I used to hop on bareback, ride the big boy down a turkey trail then turn him around for home and he'd mosey on back, grazing wherever he wanted while I caught up on my reading.
That's such a nice experience, Saddlebag. And here's another of our walks. Managed to capture a bit more than in the previous one, although I didn't get the opportunity to catch our more energetic games on the camera. It gets hard to film and to play with a cantering horse at the same time.
Saranda, there is a belief that if the horse wears a halter it isn't truly at liberty. The reason is that it creates a mental connection, as if you are still holding the lead rope. The bright yellow is a good idea at this time of year.
I do know this belief, but honestly he is the same if I take everything off, for example, in the pastures, and, if he wants, he leaves in any tack. However, I refuse leaving him without sturdy hi-viz tack on trails where motorized vehicles can sometimes be met and a motorway is not far away.
