13 year's young, 14.3 maybe 15H but have not measured him just going by what I was told, stands for grooming, farrier, bathing, cross ties, loads, hauls, awesome on the trails, does not spook but likes to be always on the look out. We actually see lots of deers, dogs, cranes, animals of that nature that will just pop out. We were riding in the back woods and we were making our own trails! Of course, he does need encouragment if you want him to cross water but if another horse goes first, then he will follow right after.
He is NOT barn or buddy sour at all! I always have him out by himself and he does not mind it all..I sometimes think he likes being alone since he is the low boy on the pecking order in a herd of 25 other geldings.
Scotty has NO vices except when mounting..he still likes to walk but he is getting better and better. The previous owners let their grandchildren ride him and they pretty much just jumped on and took off like bats out of hades and I am sure that is where his mounting issues comes from. He has learned that when I do get on, we are not going to run and get crazy, he is actually very calm and has come a long way since I have had him.
Scotty does have a lump on his side, that came from where he had gotten kicked but the vet said his body will eventually absorb it. It's very soft and does not bother him at all, I am always poking at, pushing on it and he does not mind one bit.
Bathing habits, I always use a nice SHOWER setting on the nozzle, otherwise he gets really nervous and will prance around if the water hose is too strong of a stream, but then I would too. Some gals at the barn use a full stream setting and I cannot believe their horse will tolerate it.
Scotty neck and direct reins, very forward moving and knows W/T/C voice commands, lunges and has GREAT ground manners..just a perfect gentleman!
