Secondly, I would like to buy my friend Matt's ex-polo-pony, but I can only see the little guy at weekends in winter, in Summer I can see him most days. Is this okay or cruel? If you guys think it's cruel I will think seriously about my decision. If you think it's okay I will go ahead with it.
I have a horse and a pony, and due to family and work commitments I keep them both on full livery. I dont get to see them everyday like I want to, on very bad weeks, I might only get to see them for 3 days.
Some comments that I've read before in horse magazines, state 'what is the point of having them?' But I love my horses, and I make sure they get all the love and attention that they need, they are very well looked after. They recognise me and greet me as soon as I call, and they are both very happy. If I could see them everyday, I would. Eventually I hope to have them at home, but for now I know they are well looked after and they know I love them.
Not everyone can make the time to go everyday or be able to look after their horses on DIY etc, It doesn't mean we care anyless.
In answer to your question, if you can give the love and the finances needed and be 100% sure that the person who will look after him will do a great job, I dont see it as you being cruel at all.
i don't think its cruel if
A) he is in a pasture with other horses and someone will be availible to check on him every so often to make sure he is healthy and happy
or
B) you have someone take him out everyday and graze him, groom him, walk him, etc
my view is that as long as the horse is happy and healthy it is fine!!
i think its fine.but there are some people who don't go up to see their horses at all and i think that, that is cruel.(not saying ur gonna be like that just stating a fact)
good luck and I hope it turns out for ya :!: :!:
if you think that its ok, than go ahead with it, but me personally would not make the purchase. i would feel bad that i wouldn't see him every day, if that horse loves being ridden than u shouldn't get him. but a great idea is to fet free board if u offer him up to be used for lessons, that way u can still see him and he can still be ridden.
