Help me find a donkey? (lol)

Okay so I think I might actually get a donkey here shortly. I'm in no hurry as I still have a bit more saving up to do and some more research to do but I might as well narrow down some candidates while I do it!

What I am looking for:
  • Mammoth Jack/Jennie
  • 14.3+ (anything shorter makes me feel uncomfortable)
  • Child safe, trail broken
  • Over 6yrs
  • Nothing over $1000. Cheaper is always better!
  • Would love it if it were located in Florida but its not a requirement.

Thank you guys so much!!!

Okay so I found a nice prospect. He's the perfect height, coloring, he's been started under saddle and has been out on trails but could still use some fine tuning (would be nice experience for me to finish him off). He does have a problem apparently with standing still while being mounted but I'm sure its nothing that can be fixed.

He is a bit on the young side. I was kind of wanting something over the age of 6 but I love the fact that he's in Fla so I can go see him in person.

I've contacted them but I'm a bit worried about that their minimum would be. =/

4yr Old 15'1"h Mule

Whats your opinions on him?

Yeah the only one close to the age range that I want, and the price that I want is Joe, who is in the add that I placed. Hrm..they are asking $900 and that's not expensive but a bit more than I'm willing to pay. I could always make an offer. Maybe i'll get lucky and they're desperate to see him gone? =/ Is that selfish? =/

Yeah its tough to find a good price. I'm waiting to hear about from Joe's owners. Last year they were asking $2,500 and sometime this year it was $900 and now its just "make an offer". Maybe I can get a good price! =D

Soooo I decided to not be patient and wait on a reply to my e-mail so I just called her.
Apparently Joe is very green and although he has been ridden through town and through parks, he doesn't have a whole lot of experience.
She said that he's not afraid of anything, he walked over a metal bridge his first time out without batting an eye.
He has been lunged before and got good enough to change direction on que but that was almost 2 months ago.
He picks up all 4 feet, stands perfectly for the farrier and apparently has perfect hooves!

He trailers perfectly except he's only ever been trailered in a slant load and likes to turn around so he can walk straight out. He's never been backed out of a trailer before.

I guess the lady who owns him is going on a long trip and riding her mules from mexico all the way canada or something like that! So they are worried that he's not going to get any attention whatsoever once she's gone.

I am a bit worried about the training process with him though, i've only ever worked with horses so this will be quite the experience!.

I wanted a mammoth donkey/ mule but the ones that I actually liked were actually mules, not donkeys. Mules were easier to find as well. =/
