Help me find (and pick) an eventer!

Right now I'm riding hunters but would like to move more into jumpers and, eventually, eventing. The horse I'm riding right now is an amazing hunter, but I don't think she could 'handle' jumpers and she's definitely not built to be a dressage horse so I'd like to keep her a hunter and look for a jumper/eventer.

Eventually I would like to compete training level but obviously that takes years of experience, and since I have never set foot on a c/c course I'd like to look for something sane and sound with potential for lower levels, possibly potential to advance with training.

I'm located in Canada (British Columbia) around Vancouver, but for the right horse will look up to 6 hours in all directions *including across the border through Washington*. My budget is $5000, green is ok as long as they're sane and willing, I've been riding for 12 years and can handle hot horses, etc. but would prefer something a little more bombproof.

SO! I don't know how hard an order this is or what I will find but I'd love help and opinions since I'm not an eventer - yet - and am not quite sure what I'm looking for.

5-15 years old, 15+ hh, but not gigantic, no breed specifications.
