Horse Abuser Scam Artist

I want to try and warn anyone looking for horses of a scam artist on the prowl on horse classifieds. I have found him on agdirect and equine.com. This is his current information...although it changes.

Currently listed as "APHACowboy"
North Star Michigan

He claims to have mostly "Warmblood Crosses." I am pretty sure he is running some kind of slaughterhouse/PMU type organization and then supposedly breeding with "Warmbloods."

These are the horses he has listed currently.

Equine.com Search Results

My experience with him. I was looking to buy a 4 year old Dutch cross. I must have called and emailed this guy 20 times. He sounded legitimate and honest. My trainer called him and talked to him. He produced pictures and videos. Bought the horse. The horse that arrived was not the one advertised. It was a hand to short, not the right breed (clearly a QH), was not trained, blind in one eye and had a severe respiratory infection.

The seller had promised a 100% health guarantee. Suddenly the man that was always accessible by phone and email was nowhere to be found. I went so far as to have a lawyer friend of mine send a certified letter. I ended up not getting any money back because my lawyer suggested that the only way to get justice was for me to go to Michigan and pursue it there. Don't have the extra $$ for that.

Anyway, that's my story. While window shopping I found his ads. I tried to post comments on the ads but he has blocked any comments from being added.

PLEASE DON'T BUY FROM THIS GUY. AND SPREAD THE WORD ON ANY OTHER FORUMS YOU KNOW.

Thanks for letting everyone know about this.
It is so sad when these people do things like this.
Especially when we should be trying to get MORE people in the horse market and way of life.

Have you contacted equine.com? They will ban him. I bet his photos are fraudulent, probably legitimate photos of horses owned by other sellers. Would love to find the real owners of the horses in the photos and see what they say!

I contacted agdirect.com (that is where I bought the horse) and they said that it was not their "liability" In fact it says so somwhere on their website. I didn't contact equine.com because I didn't have any "proof" because the horse I bought and personally saw with my own two eyes was not listed on that particular site. Plus he may be continually getting kicked off...because every 3 months or so he changes the name and email he is listed under. He even randomly changes his town (the horse I bought was listed as in Imlay City, Michigan). I can tell by the rider in the pictures.

Hey there,
The same thing just happened to me. I wanted a Holsteiner cross, and the horse I got is severly under weight, over at the knees and something is wrong with his hind end. The name of the man was Duane Foster, but he claimed to be selling out of Mills Farm in Ashely Michigan. Is this the same thing that happend to you?

The guy I bought from was not named Duane Foster...but that doesn't mean anything. I've seen his ads listed under several different names, different screennames, different cities, etc. I can tell its the same guy by the pictures. The person riding always has their head and shoulders cropped out of the photo. Usually kind of a shorter fatter male build. And the horses ALWAYS have a fake tail attachment. This happened to me a year ago. I just posted on this forum when I found his ads again. I'm sorry this happened to you, but unfortunately unless you track him down personally in Michigan there is very little that can be done. The best thing I can tell you to do is to try and tell your story on as many forums as possible.

I BELIEVE (although don't quote me, I haven't talked to the lady that sued him in a week or so) this man is sitting in jail awaiting trial for cruelty and neglect of his animals. I luckly live in Michigan, a few hours north of Imlay City actually (where he does live) and a lady I know bought 3 horses from him, 2 of which had to be put down because they had respiratory infections so bad they couldn't breathe any longer and couldn't be saved. The other one she still has and has taken it in as a rescue horse and he's doing quite well. She paid over $20,000 for 3 horses that were worth not even $1,000. So, she wasted no time in sueing (sp? Haha that looks funny) his butt and making sure she got her money back. I don't know if there has been a trial, or if it's still pending, but after hearing your 2 stories, I will DEFINITELY be giving her a call tomorrow to see whats going on
