I would definitely call around to different places, and if possible go look at their trailers and stuff. I would also want reviews on the company.

I'm sure older horses (like mid aged) handle it better than the young and old, but I would be a worry wart because I just wouldn't know what was going on.

I could see myself calling up the driver every 15 min. "where are you now? Did you feed them? Did you water them? How are they doing?"
I don't think the driver would like it very much..

Hi AL
I would say if you like the horse go for it! If you do your research on the trucking company you will feel a lot more comfortable about it. I ride for a lady at a place that agists a lot of racehorses and they are a "over night stopover" place and I see lots of babs come through. The last one I saw was 6months and he was being sent back because he had terrible legs anyway, the driver was SOOO sweet to him and he came off bright as a button. This particular weaner had traveled 10hours to get to his new home (with breaks) and then a week later he was going back.
The babies I see come through seem to do really well, mind you the handlers are worth their weight in gold.
My 12month old is due to make his 9hour trip home in a couple of weeks, and the people I am using are totally fine with my pedantic ways The truck is totally decked out even has cameras so the drivers can watch them. Plus drivers have mobs so they can always be contacted. $450. But, Iím in Australia
When I started looking into it, it was surprising how many different trucking companies there are out there, the trips they make, and how often.
Good luck, let use know how you get on.
:)

Thanks Jacki.

For right now, I'm just looking around. Probably going to get a horse near me though. But we'll see when the time's right.
