I think even experienced horse people can learn something from the website called horsetradertricks.com. It's a free site largely written by victims of bad traders in an effort to help others avoid the same situations. It's a much more comprehensive site now, two years after its creation. Lots of examples of how dishonest horse traders cheat buyers and although the Trader Horror Stories posted on the site make me smack my forehead in disbelief that anyone can be so stupid, it's happened to me...
