I have no intention of selling my filly, but I need to get her insured, and I am just curious on how much you would think shes worth. I live in CT and I know horses run pretty expensive around here compared to some other places in the US. My Filly is a 2009 buckskin reg. breeding stock paint/pinto filly. She has pretty good bloodlines including Gamblin Kenny Rogers, Gamblin Man, Winning Colors, and a few other well known paint/quarter horses. She is broke W/T/C and spins, backs, trail rides, and is an excellent showmanship prospects (sets, backs, pivots like a dream) Shes is currently 15.1 and is expected to reach 16hh. She has shown halter as a weanling, yearling, and two year old. Winning breeding stock halter classes at new england pinto, and placing reserve champion all age model horse at open shows. She also has placed 2ed all age color breed. She was shown 1st year green HUS and placed 4th and 5th out of 19 as the only two year old in the division. She definitely always catches the judges eye. She has been schooled WP and can walk, jog with a nice even WP headset. Lope is coming along nicely also. I have a few yearling pictures of her on my page, and I will post more 2 year old pictures of her soon. Thanks <3 also, I paid $3000 for her in november 2010 as a yearling

I'm not an expert with horse insurance, but don't you have to get the horse appraised by a horse broker or something like that?

Recent purchase price is usually accepted as the horse's value for insurance purposes. If you want to insure the horse for more than the purchase price, you either have to have a professional appraisal, or you have to provide documentation of competition winnings to support the increase.

However, most of this applies to horses with a value above 5K. I would think you could buy a 5K full mortality policy on your horse and justify the 2K over purchase price by the training put on her.
