Wow, I guess it's just the difference in disciplines, but for $7k, I'd expect something that was literally a schoolmaster at it's chosen discipline. Maybe not talented enough for the upper levels, but dang sure good enough to ribbon consistently at lower levels without having to fight through the whole course.

Have you considered maybe looking a little farther out and then having the horse shipped to you? Sometimes you can find horses really cheap in non-horsey areas (or like my area that is 99% western, english horses are cheap) and, even with shipping, the price is still on par with what you'd pay for a lesser quality horse from your immediate area.

I think she's a nice mare but not $7K nice. The video is marked show jumping. Those are barely green hunter heights or for ponies under 14.2. Not impressed at all. I could see the two of you doing dressage if you got a good dressage trainer. I don't like the breakover in her neck. This is false collection. She should have a nice rounded topline in her neck.

If it was for the OP the POA is cute but a pony so not really suited to her needs I would think.

For a schoolmaster jumper around me you're looking at 20k+ and that's a horse that requires a lot of maintenance. Around here horses are around the same price for the same training. But it is a well to do suburban area with a huge English market. Honestly I think your horse market is similar to mine, so 7k isn't outrageous and is actually quite normal. Though I'd still offer lower if she will work out for you.

Well I said I would update after the look-see... so I am!

I took a bunch of video of I you wanted to see, but suffice to say it was not a match. Very cute and sweet though! I got on and did walk trot. Trot was bouncy, and I was trying to get a good bend going to help (as everyone said it would) - I mostly spent my time doing that. I declined to canter or jump. If I had gotten a good trot circle going, I would have.. but I just felt she wasn't as put together as she should be. (I wasn't a good enough rider to really get her there).

I also found out when she was a racehorse she had broken a hip and my friend who was there said that's kind of bad. ?

14h is to small. I leased a 14.2h horse last summer.. now that I've been on bigger I realize my legs just wrap around her belly. :) 15-16 would be perfect. 17 I could do but prefer 15-16.

Also I've been told to not bother with horses under 5-6 as they will probably be too much horse for me? Younger, less trained, more unpredictable? (in general?)
