^The market in some places is simply different, and that has to be taken into consideration.

Here, TBs really aren't popular; especially when you can adopt a nice one for under a thousand. Warmbloods are where it's at, and the market shows it.

I'd love to see better video, too! I didn't like him too much in the one jumping video, but he is a pretty boy. Maybe he is more talented than he appeared in that one.

I wouldn't go with the $500 figure but I think people are quoting the 5-8k ones because there are plenty of people that are desperate to sell at present that are prepared to accept much less and are advertising horses for lower money simply to attract more buyers and move them on
In the UK I could buy a 16.2 4 yr old gelding by Roma Skip Diamond (ID) x TB mare that's already competing in unaff. Dressage and started jumping and pay to ship it over here and still pay less than they want for this horse - simply because the owner wants the cash in the bank and not eating its head off in the stable

Sully, I think there's a big price difference between a horse that is bred specifically for a sport that is unproven and horse bred for racing with no show record. I think it is a mistake to compare them like that. I do believe a non purpose bred TB can go on to compete at higher levels, but he has to prove he has some talent before he can command a 5 figure price tag like that, and this horse hasn't.

You could buy this TB in IL for $7,500

On the same page that Ellis is advertised on for $35K

IMO that bay TB gelding has nothing on Ellis, not even comparable. Just my opinion but he doesn't have the step nor the jump to make it to the As. You pay for top quality.

I honestly wasn't seeing anything so special about Ellis that makes him worth nearly 5 times more than that same breed of horse with the same sort of history and at the same point in training
The same people are wanting $15K for this horse and its already competing over a full course of jumps

Ellis is a 'pretty' horse but other than that I'm not seeing anything that screams $35k at me

This isn't a very big mare but I'd rather pay $15K for her - she's already done more to prove herself and has 'competition breeding

Just because he's a TB doesn't mean he's worth less than the WBs. Yeah you can go and find a 1000 TB's for less than he's selling for, doesn't mean they're the same quality as him. Frankly as far as TBs go he's very nice and actually has the talent. The rest look lower level only and not something that can hold their own on the A circuit.

I didn't say that TB's were worth less than WB's - most top eventers are TB's
I'm just not seeing $35K's worth of value, talent or quality in this horse
They've had him for two and a half years and I would expect him to be at least competing in low level dressage, hunter classes or jumping by now.
