I have no doubt that he'll be a great horse and it sounds like he is your baby.
My horse is worth way more to me than what I paid for her, but if I decided I needed to sell her, I'd have to look at what she is worth to other people. You have to take into consideration the market, and what horses similar in quality to her or selling for. When you're trying to sell him, what he's worth to you is irrelevant.
If you're looking to get that kind of price for him, I'd suggest keeping him for a while and keep up the training. The downside to that is that you'll get more attached to him and it'll be that much harder to let him go when the time comes. :/
