I didn't say they were worthless. In fact, I said I rather liked your mare.
I'm also just saying that it is illegal with AQHA to sell a registered horse without papers. In case you didn't know.
Ultimately it is up to you but I would tread carefully if you wanted to stay in good standing with AQHA.

Everyone already seems to think my horses are worthless & overpriced anyway.
You edited this post quite a bit. The first draft was a much better post. I thought your explanation as to why you might be offering horse without the papers was plausable. But this post? Well IDK, Now I am back to wondering.

No you do not owe anyone an explanation, but if you are selling your horse with or without papers, I think people have a right to wonder why. I sure wanted to know why.

I guess if you are right about the prices they'll be sold soon. Honestly, people are letting horses loose in Shawnee National Forest bc in 2013 they have lost their jobs and cannot pay for them OR SELL THEM AT AUCTION. (My source is a fellow member of the Champaign County Farm Bureau. Don't know if Cook County has one bc there is only one working farm in your county.)
This is a very friendly forum. Don't blame us if we aren't interested in your prices.

WS, it's not just AQHA who frowns on that, they go by the Livestock Act which made up the laws and have existed for many many years. The Act included all pure bred animals. Also an animal cannot be advertised using the term Purebred unless Registration Papers accompany the sale.

SketchyHorse, it is illegal to charge two different prices in order to get the papers. The new owner pays for the transfer. Is the QH registered in your name or the previous owner? If you haven't transferred the horse in to your name, the horse technically belongs to whomever is on the registration paper.I do wish you luck in getting your prices. I've had several calls to take Arabian as the previous owner knew I had experience with them. I've had to turn them down.No feed shortage here but when one's job goes flat family comes first.

The reason for the edit in the post is I'm just sick of how everyone acts on here. Instead of actually asking as to why the gelding is being offered without papers people pointed fingers of it being "fishy" or "crooked." When in actuality the papers were lost, we never got around to transferring them. Hence being offered without papers (it's not like the option wasn't available) because most people who've been interested aren't looking at him for AQHA point shows. Most have been looking for a trail horse, small show prospect etc.

I do appreciate everyone who pointed out the rules etc. I hadn't known about any of them. These are the first horses I've ever tried to sell. So thank you WSArabians & Saddlebag. I just wasn't sure how to list him & now I know. Which is really all ANYONE had to say instead of attacking me. Whether that was the intent or not, that angry post was in result from that.

Corporal, I'm not in Cook County so wouldn't have any idea what goes on in there. There are probably about 5 barns within a 15 mile radius, most of which are filled by me. The horse business isn't great around here but it's obviously not hurting. People are just far more pickier on what they buy. And I wasn't blaming ANYONE for not being interested in the prices. You don't like the prices? Don't buy 'em. I have NO problem selling those horses for less to go to a good home. That's ALL I want to do. Yet everyone here seems to think I'm some freakin' crook. I've owned both those **** horses for 7yrs+ so I think if I was just looking to make a quick buck off them I wouldn't have held onto them for so long. Hell, I would give them away to the right home. For me it's not about the money & never has been. I made a rookie mistake with the papers thing & I can totally admit that.

Not true unless the AQHA changed their rules. They do not require the papers to go with the horse. They require them to be sent back in.

Sorry, SketchyHorse. Are you planning on staying here to talk? I thought that you were using this forum as a Craig's List to sell your horses.

I actually frequent this forum quite a bit Corporal, I just don't always post. Most of the time I just read for the helpful information.

    AQHA Handbook
    I stand.corrected then.
I did know someone who did this, and got their AQHA membership revoked. Not because the papers were lost; he had them, but wanted another $1000 for them to go with the horse.
