    Sales videos?

Ok so, not only am I a crazy horse girl, but also a bit of a computer nerd too. I love playing with imovie on my mac....and when I get to combine my mac and horsieness I am in heaven.
When I sold my gelding last fall I got many comments on his sales video. It's nothing special, but not bad. More recently I have been making videos for friends' horses that are also for sale.
What I would really love to do is have a small side-business making sales videos for people. I don't think just having nice pictures and a well-worded ad are always enough in this tough economy.

    Here are my questions:
If you couldn't make one for yourself, how much would you pay for a sales video?
Owners have the best footage sometimes, and lots of it. But if they don't should I offer an extra service of taking HD video on my camera for the video? I know this opens a whole other can of worms....
Should I make a checklist for the owners to fill out when working on their video? (ie. Slow motion, still pictures, pedigree, gaits, jumping, etc)
Does this sound like a crazy idea?

Here's one I made for a friend for an example. I know its not perfect, or like something some of the giant stables might have....

I think offering your services to make sales videos is a great idea. I am sure lots of people would pay for it. No idea how much though.

Just some comments on the video you chose to post as an example.

It is too long. I think initial look-see videos should be short. 3 minutes max. Show the best shots/video. A longer more involved video can be made to show even more examples. In the case of this video there is endless poor quality footage.

I personally prefer to see stills and video separate. It is annoying to have the video cut in and out with stills.

The running comments are not necessary either. I agree with the description at the front including statistics, etc. But I find the comments that are pasted at various places "cute jumper" make the whole think look amateur.

    Good idea!

I agree with AB on the length....but going to add you could make longer videos "Upon request"....for someone who isnt selling their horse, just wanting a video of their 2010 shows.

It might be better for you to take the video in some instances as the example video has some really shaky bits in it, and some extreme zoom ins. Being the person putting together the clips, you might have a better idea on where to stand to get the best shots. (ie to stand in the middle of the line to get both jumps, or where on the rail to stand for a course)

The video makes the pony look like s/he has a different colour then in the photos.

I am guessing that has to do with a camera that was not color balanced or is just not the best quality.

I do agree with Velvet about the video quality control. A poor quality video is hard to watch.

    Thanks guys!

I thought the ones of Oreo and Cooper were a little long too. His owner just wanted to add so much into them. The one I made for my old gelding is a little shorter (2:30 or so). It's the one for "apollo" on my youtube station. My husband took that video so its a little shaky too. But I did get a good new camera since then that I can use for taking video myself. It actually takes HD video, which is pretty cool.

We'll see if I get any bites on this....i did post an ad on craigslist, but I think it would be better to get in with a couple farms around here.
