Whats funny is not one person on this forum would do what ac4h does for free yet they expect them to do it for free. If I have to pay a few people 10 an hour for time to save a horse than I consider it worth it im sorry for those who don't. Its not the horses fault or choice to end up there. Why don't you guys post up some links and put your money where your mouths are

Actually, I do - I have. I currently have a 4 year old hackney gelding I got June 18th 2010, I traded him for 30 bales of hay (so a cost equivalent of roughly $90, about the same as one would pay for a killpen horse), because he was starving and wild. I have now put 1 year's worth of feeding, training, hoof care, veterinary care, and rehab into him, and am giving him away free to a phenomenal home - not just any one that would meet a price point.

Actually a lot of us do exactly that, I go to my local auction, bid against the meat man, and bring home a horse, no fanfare, no nothing. One I sold at the same price I paid for her when I realized she was to much for me, so I'm not making anything. No it's not the horses fault, but again sob stories and horses needing rescue are in abundant supply.

Indyhorse, 1 horse is no way shape or form the equivalent of the 1000s going through broker lots. I have personally saved 6 horses and im green compared to some and I guarantee I've never made one dollar off a horse

I take in one case at a time because that it what my financial capabilities allow me to do - so therefore I don't need to be begging and scamming money from strangers on the internet.

Funny how I have several rescues, too, and almost never sell horses--whether used-up of valuable--because I can't bear to imagine them going somewhere bad....

I've taken more than one horse for someone who could no longer afford them, paid their board, vet, and farrier bills, and gave the horses away to good homes without any thought of compensation.

I most recently boarded a friend's horse for nothing since she was losing her place in a barn where the BO/trainer was being evicted, and she had no place to go. I fed and cared for that horse for 6 weeks while her owner found her another living situation. I expected no money for that situation, either.

You do for others because you can, not because you expect a monetary reward. If someone expects others to fund their way and lifestyle, then maybe they shouldn't be crowing about doing so much good.

Precisely, SR. It's hardly charity if you are getting paid.

Just like it isn't a rescue if you are SELLING your horses, mrbossman.

I may not go to auctions and rescue horses, but I take in and foster the ones I can (at my own expense) for a local rescue. In no way would I touch AC4H with a 10 foot pole. Not with all the horror stories or trying to get horses from them that are out there. There are way to many of them for there not to be truth behind them.

I agree with SR, it's the playing on feelings that I mostly don't like. A dealer is a dealer at the end of the day and I'd rather deal with someone who says they're a dealer than someone who uses manipulation of people's emotions and fakes being a rescue.

I don't get this donation thing though. So if they raise the full amount they pull the horse out or does it stay there until someone pays in full?
