Wanted-well broke horse

I am new to this forum and enjoy reading everyone's posts. I hope someone can help me find (or has one )a good horse for my mother.(she is in her 70's) My father died a year ago this May and my mom is lost. She has dreamed of owning a horse since she was a little girl. I am looking for an older, dead-broke, well mannered horse..any color, any sex, any breed. The horse can be slightly lame and only good for light riding. She really only wants a companion and a horse she can go for a walk on. I have scoured all the horse classifieds online and all the suitable horses are in the Eastern or southern U.S. I am in S.W Minnesota on the S.E. South Dakota border. So if anyone has a horse or knows of someone with a horse that would suit my mother please email me..Thank you ....

Has she taken lessons? I'd certainly do that before she dives into ownership. Horses are a lot of work.

Yes, I agree on the riding lessons. But I would like to get her a old, slow horse so that both she and the horse can take lessons together..That way she is used to riding the horse she owns since that horse is the one she'd be riding on a daily basis.

Also maybe look for a horse she can lease while she learns. Here is a horse in Minnesota that seems to fit the bill. :]

I'd really hate to see an older horse moved around a lot. I think it might be helpful to take lessons for a while and get used to the daily work before making such a huge purchase. What happens if your mom doesn't wish to care for a horse every day.

You might try some of the local horse rescues and see what they have.

Also a gaited horse is a nice ride for us older folks lol...

I have a horse that would be perfect for your mother. I don't know what you are willing to spend but he is priced at 5500. If tht is in your price range than I will post some more info on the horse.
