As far as I know they are still allowed as USDF shows, and seem to be getting more and more popular at the lower levels. I bought a pair of wide track composite stirrups recently to help with knee and ankle pain. I wish I could have afforded a pair of metal ones. I really hate the light weight composite stirrup.
