Pelham in Hunters?
So my girl CAN go in a simple dee snaffle bit, BUT she goes MUCH better right now in a short shank (Tom Thumb) Pelham (and yes, I use double reins, not a converter).
I'd like to show her in the Pelham, but I don't want that to negatively affect our scores in the show ring. Being new to the Hunter world, I do know that Pelhams are allowed, but I don't really know how that might affect pinning.
So far, I've heard both ways...I have heard that judges don't look negatively on the use of a Pelham as long as it's being used properly (double reins and you hold/use them properly, NO converter). But I have ALSO heard the opposite - that 2 rides all things considered equal, the horse in the snaffle will pin higher because the Pelham is seen as a stronger bit and Hunters is all about having a horse who can be ridden effortlessly.
Anyone have any personal insight either way?
