If you don't have a shad you can just wear white breeches. And formal attire is inly necessary if they require it. Keep in mind too that hunter shads and dressage shads are different! Posted via Mobile Device
At our local Classic (another name for a huntefr derby) you will see some people in shadbellies, but for most, formal attire means a solid color dark coat (no pin stripes) white breeches and a stock tie.
Sorry to "revive" this thread, but I just wanted to say that I'm doing this at our B rated show. I don't have white breeches or a shad...that's going to be okay, right? We did a handy hunter that kind of gave me the feel for the hunter derby, and it was soooo much fun, and my horse, who is in his first year of serious jumping, will go over practically anything. So I'm super excited!
