Oahu Hawaii! All the bugs here are HUGE! There was an 8" centipede at the smokepit last night! I would have gotten a picture but they squished it before I could

Hey Roper, if you get bit by one you will get really sick. They say to drink a lot of beer if you do, something about the yeast in it counteracting against the poison of a centipede....

I have giant orb weavers here - get as big as the cane spiders - string webs over 6 foot across a trail and is VERY intimidating when you ride right into one on horseback -even the horses freak out because the webs are sticky, and strong.

I was bitten by a brown recluse spider, in 2008. My roommate cut a potato* in half and told me to hold it over the bite area for an hour. It drew out the poison and it didn't ulcerate that badly. I have a pitted scar from it, but it could've been much worse!

*The starches either counteract or draw out the poison. I've also heard of using a raw onion cut in half. ???

There are several types of orbs...I don't know for sure, but we have little red spiders that are also orb weavers and their webs are usually 2 to 3 foot height and width. THese big green ones I have in my woods have webs that could cover my couch!

I painted a sign of a spider and nailed it to a dead tree at the beginning of that trail where they live on my place not for fun, but as a warning!! I don't know if they would bite but they are just plain ugly and scary.

There were these that used to make HUGE webs and when I would go outside to smoke, the spider would bounce as if to warn me not to come any closer. Funny!
