Funny mare stories

Well, my first one is about when I was riding a mare named Butterz. Butterz is the kind of mare that does what she wants, when she wants to. Anyways, I tacked her up for a ride in the arena and my brother was going to be riding with me on another mare named Missy. Butterz is usually stubborn with what pace you want her to go at, unless you are riding her on one of her good days. Well, Butterz was having a good day. Not even 25 minutes after I first got on Butterz, Missy decided she was going to start chasing Butterz. Butterz then was being chased by Missy and went full gallop I almost threw me off! It was hilarious, I couldn't stop laughing. Missy and Butterz weren't done though. As we were trotting, Missy came up behind her again and tried to cut in front of Butterz. Butterz didn't like that and took a sharp turn and almost flung me off again. They did this multiple times until they got tired. I was laughing so hard I almost fell off! My other story happened on the same day when we were mucking out some stalls. A pony named Strawberry, (She is very old) was in her stall watching us muck out the stalls when she let out a big fart that lasted like 20 seconds! It was so funny. We were laughing our butts off and she was just staring at us like "What?" Hahaha, if you want, leave some of your funny horse stories below !

Yuck! I'm glad you weren't your mare or by the toxic gas from Strawberry ;) LOL

Mine isn't a "mare" per-say, it was a molly mule filly (6 months old ish), but she was a crazy little thing! She would head butt and push her mama if she wasn't trotting fast enough or standing the right way to nurse, and constantly leapt on top of her mom/did karate kicks at her. The funniest two things that happened with her though were:

a) When she met a full sized gelding for the first time. She acted terrified of him when he came up (he's a gentle old soul) and she started mouthing at him, which is horse language for "don't hurt me, I'm not a threat! I'm a baby!" as she edged towards him, but the second he got close enough to sniff, she spun around and double barrel kicked him right in the nose and pranced off looking smug!

b) this one was when she was only about two months old. I was tacking up her dam to be driven and had set my Sprite can down on the ground while I did it. That little filly came right up, grabbed it in her teeth, and proceeded to chug the entire thing down in one gulp, then tossed the can away!

That is so funny! Is she still that ornery?

I would imagine so! I sold her as a weanling (turns out, the mule ownership thing is not for me...LOL) but she should be about a 15 months old now!

I have two very memorable ones among many of my mare. The first was before I owned her when she was with her original owner/(I'm assuming breeder). About 6 miles away from where she was there was a stud who was kept in a stallion proof fence, watched constantly and there was also a field filled with barbed wire in between his paddock and the rest of the mileage to my girl. One day, in fashion, my mare plowed - not jumped - through the fence, jumped the barb wire and busted the stallion proof fencing in half (it wasn't mare proof lol). She had a midnight rendezvous with the stud...... three different times. By the third foal she was sold with the infamy of "the red beast": stud owners beware, a record she still holds to this day .

The second was when us kids decided to have little 'races' at the old barn. Keep in mind it had a 1/4 of a mile track and I have a QH who is very good at being competitive when she wants to. We took off at a nice canter until my girl decided to kick it up a notch and began to gallop. Being the not so smart kid that I was I just hung on for the ride and while I won my race, I failed to see the fact that she was bound and determined to become a cross country horse. She jumped the country jumps that were set up in the inside of the track, plowed through another small jump and then propelled me and her right into a pond. I'm positive she did this out of spite because I accidentally let my legs touch her sides gently to ask her to run. She did have a smirk on her face when we were soaking wet and drip drying. I do have to admit though, whenever I'd lose my balance or something that ride she'd always slow down and adjust her body to catch mine!

That's hilarious! I almost got thrown into an arena wall once because I didn't turn fast enough
