    Speaking French

Somebody emailed this to me, wasn't to sure where to put it. I thought it was humorous:

A U.S. Navy Admiral was attending a naval conference that included Admirals from the U.S. , English, Canadian, Australian and French Navies. At a cocktail reception, he found himself standing with a large group of Officers that included personnel from most of those countries. Everyone was chatting away in English as they sipped their drinks but a French admiral suddenly complained that, 'Whereas Europeans learn many languages, Americans learn only English.' He then asked, 'Why is it that we always have to speak English in these conferences rather than speaking French?' Without hesitating, the American Admiral replied 'Maybe it's because the Brits, Canadians, Aussies and Americans arranged it so you wouldn't have to speak German.
You could have heard a pin drop

You know, the French bailed us out first. Remember the American Revolution? If it wasn't for them, we Americans would probably be driving on the left side of the road and sipping tea with our crumpets every day at noon. (Nothing against the English of course.)

I tend to see it as the best investment France ever made.

Yes Tim. My husband and I had that very converstion yesterday. Because of their efforts during the revolutionary war their economy crumbled. I wonder if that's why they still dislike us so much.

No they don't really dislike us. Much of my family has spend time in France, except me They just don't like loud, demanding and crude tourists. Plus, they have different ideas about what constitutes loud, demanding and crude.

America did bust its ass to rout the German's though.
