Things I wish I could tell non horse people......

I have this 9 year old girl taking lessons with me, and at her very first lesson, very first time on a horse EVER, I help her mount up, and almost immediately, the horse shakes, like the big, wet dog shake, and she screamed at the top of he lungs for the entire duration of the shake. The whole ranch turned and looked at what was happening. I held my breath as I tried to contain my laughter, and calmly explained to her what happened. Bahahahahaha! Ohhhh my. Lol

^^ the horse I ride does this all the time!! And I can never catch it in time to stop her. I have 'rode' through at least 10 of these shakes :p


I hate when people think riding is easy or not fun... they don't know what they're missing!!!!

No, my mare is not a "wild stallion". Neither are the ones on tv during the Olympics, on racetracks, in 4h or pretty much anywhere you can think of. Want to see a wild stallion? Go find a free herd. And a lot of those are not stallions.there are some mares too;)

Yes, you can have a coed herd without any foals being made. There's a certain thing called "gelding".

Just because you're allowed to bring your dog to the ranch does NOT mean you should bring your four ill-behaved dogs while your daughter rides. And it especially doesn't mean you let them run off-leash pooping all over the place and running in between the legs of tied horses.

^Yes, that has happened. I'm just lucky my mare likes dogs...

Dogs out while people are riding is a huge pet peeve of mine. I left my old place, in part, due to the owners pit bull, who has attacked and bitten a girl who just came onto the property, being out all the time, and barking at and charging my clients coming to the ranch!! If your dog can't sit quietly, leave horses alone, and NOT bite people, it should not be out in a place of business. We have a no dogs rule at my new boarding place and I like it that way.

Hehe, I showed a friend a picture of the horse I ride (a big brown gelding), and she went "OMG IS THAT A BLACK STALLION?!"

I recently was at a barn I ride at every blue moon for a family member. Well we were helping this woman mount up on her gelding who she just purchased. I noticed once she was in the saddle it was a bit to small for her but what made it worse was she put her butt right on top of the cantle.(hanging over it, made me cringe) I said you might want to move a little more forward, it will be more comfy for you and your horse. She yelled at me "my mom taught me how to ride I know what im doing".

Not to sound rude but this is why I board alone.

Just because I ride horses, I am not a "cowgirl" nor do I know anything about cows or round them up or lasso them or brand them. I eat them after they are cut up and packaged & put in a store.

This is all so true, lol.
A conversation I had with some random girl sitting next to me on the plane while flying to Montana:
Girl: So do you play any sports?
Me: Yes, I play soccer and ride horses.
Girl: Oh, that's cool. They're always so pretty, standing in the fields.
Me: What I'm thinking: O-O What I actually say: They are, aren't they?
Girl: So do you just go in the field and throw a saddle on it and ride?
Me: What I'm thinking: O-O O-O O-O NO YOU IDIOT What I actually say: Sort of....
Girl: I've always wanted to sit on a horse on the edge of a cliff and rear up in front of the setting sun.
Me: . . . . . . . . . . . . Excuse me I need to use the bathroom.
Then I went to the bathroom and spent the next few minutes laughing hysterically.....

1. Rearing is NOT fun. Especially NOT ON THE EDGE OF A CLIFF.
2. You do NOT just chuck a saddle on a horse and then ride it. You have to groom it first and carefully adjust the saddle so it doesn't give them sores. And you don't just do it in the field, especially if there are several horses in there.
3. When people say,"Sure I can ride a horse. I went on a led 20 minute trail ride when I was 8."

Sigh.... non-horsey people XD

"What kind of horse do you have?"

"A Thoroughbred."

"But what kind?"

"A THOROUGHBRED."

"Yes, it's a thoroughbred, but WHAT KIND?"

"Thoroughbred does not mean purebred!!!! It's a breed just like a Quarter Horse!"

"....Oh."
