Wow, that was amazing! I'm sooo jealous. I can't even get on my horse bareback without him running into a fence or wall. Hehehe...maybe one day we will get there. He's still learning.

I love riding bareback, I've only ever trotted though, and did some trotting over cross rails, i'd love to try cantering sometime though.

This was the first time I cantered...I was always too afraid to before, I had just gotten trotting figured out! But let me tell you, it's actually easier to canter bareback than to trot bareback! (given that your horse picks up the canter when asked and doesn't run into it with the knock-you-off-balance-fast-trot!)

Sandie still tends to run into her canter a bit so I didn't ever want to try it...but when we tried jumping bareback the day I took these pics she just naturally picked it up and I let her keep going - and it was GREAT! (of course, in this video I had to stop her because she picked up the wrong lead, but there was one off-camera where we went around the whole arena!) I highly recommend it...try it over a tiny vertical and see if your horse naturally picks it up and then ride it and enjoy! You'll be hooked, I promise!

I cantered/trotted bareback on Painter for the first time today! I've done it on other horses, but never Painter. He was NOT happy about it, but was pretty good. It's really cool because he has a ton of power and speed in his compact body, I could just feel the power about to burst out.

He's a pissy little mare, and he thought he was done because I usually cool out bareback. When I asked him to trot he was like "You want me to work?" Plus he is very sensitive to leg pressure and he didn't like the constant leg. But all he did was try to go fast, not a single "oops, I almost lost my rider. Teeheehee" moment

My mom said she will try to get a video of me riding bareback! She said she didn't even realize I was bareback untill I started gigg;ing, so I can't look too bad

I asked for the canter, and then when she picked it up I squeezed a bit more and went into my 2 pt to get off her back...and she took off!! I think it helped too that she saw the other two horses doing it beforehand and it was a wide open pasture...wasn't very hard to get her to go lol! Here's the other two racing...they were FLYING!

Lol, I wish I could ride Boo bareback, but alas - he is cursed with high narrow withers and an uncomfortable spine.......I cringe just thinking about it.
