This was the first time I cantered...I was always too afraid to before, I had just gotten trotting figured out! But let me tell you, it's actually easier to canter bareback than to trot bareback! (given that your horse picks up the canter when asked and doesn't run into it with the knock-you-off-balance-fast-trot!)
Sandie still tends to run into her canter a bit so I didn't ever want to try it...but when we tried jumping bareback the day I took these pics she just naturally picked it up and I let her keep going - and it was GREAT! (of course, in this video I had to stop her because she picked up the wrong lead, but there was one off-camera where we went around the whole arena!) I highly recommend it...try it over a tiny vertical and see if your horse naturally picks it up and then ride it and enjoy!
