arabian x riding pony...jumper?

Hey everyone, I have recently gotten a beautiful dun 3/4 arabian 1/4 riding pony mare. She stands at 13.1hh and is 6 years old. I have always been interested in jumping and was wondering if arabians are good jumpers. I would love to learn to jump on my new mare, but if she would excel at something else then I would want to do something she can do well at. Thanks for any help, Kayla

A lot of people have said that Arabians are too delicate for jumping, but I've seen a lot of them who are exceptional. Some individuals may be more finely-boned, but it doesn't mean they can't. Every horse needs to have an eye kept on them in case of injury.

My favorite school horse to jump as a child was a 26 year old Arabian gelding.

In my opinion, Arabians can make great little jumpers! They have wonderful endurance. You probably won't be using an Arab in an A circuit or anything, but they are more than capable of doing lower level jumping.

Hi there! Almost any breed can do the lower levels of any discipline. Arabians do tend to be a little delicate, and hot, but I've seen some do great in the jumper ring because they have just enough speed to be competitive, but most max out at the 1 meter(3'3") or so. Being a pony, depending on her build, scope, and soundness, she could probably do the .8/.85m(about 2'6"-2'9")maybe the .9/.95m(about 2'9"-3'), but it really just depends on her build, scope, and soundness. I used to jump an Arab gelding up to 1.2m he definitely jumped a little differently and sorta did things his own way. He'd only perform for a couple of people but would pop over lower jumps happily with others.

I have a small Morab mare that jumps 2ft9 easily, and she loves it. And, actually most of the jumping horses in my area (we don't have many WBs or any of those fancy breeds) are Arabians or Arabian crosses. It all depends on the horse.

I've seen many arabians jump and to me I guess it all comes down to if their joints can take it ( my horses joint can't take the big jump as well as they use to)and if they like it or not.
