Anyway I have my first show this Friday so a little nervous but I don’t get nervous like I used to. Basically I know there is not much in my ride that I can change and I just have to do what I know. Myself and a bunch of other riders from the barn went out yesterday for an off property lesson to get the horses ready for the upcoming weekend.
I was riding with just one other girl so my lesson was small and the other riders competing at the lower levels went after us. The warm up was okay, not big fences like 2 foot so my horse is very unimpressed and not trying hard because she can walk over them but she was listening well. We went into the ring and my coach said “Okay we’re going to challenge you guys today. We put the jumps up so when the show comes it will be easy”. All from 1.10 – 1.20 Oxer’s 1.20 had maximum width (4’6). I just took a look at them and then just ignored the height because worrying about that wouldn’t get me anywhere except thinking too much about the height and not enough about my ride. We’re starting the first show at a low level so that’s why these fences where at that height.
And all I can say is wow. My horse is amazing! We jumped all the jumps in courses, and made 4 different courses out of what was set it. And lucky for me out of the 9 jumps 4 where oxer’s and 1 triple bar. I love oxer’s, just love them they are so much fun to jump. Stella was amazing, when I would put my leg on for that slightly longer take off she went with me. I wasn’t left behind once, wasn’t thrown out of the tack ( this horse has a massive jump, when the jumps get bigger her jump get 50x more powerful and bigger, she uses every inch of muscle to get over the jumps and really launches herself from her hind end ).
Considering last time we went off property it was a mess, thrown around over 3’0 – 3’3 jumps. It will be one year in June since I’ve owner her and I cannot believe how far we have come. In the past 2 months every ride has been significantly better and better, seat and legs more secure, seeing my distances, staying with her over the fences. I posted videos of me jumping her over small jumps and when I look at that now I say “omg that looks horrible!” I want to take them down it looks so bad! Last year I could barely get over a course with her because of her massive jump and my poor coaching, and now we’re really working together. I trust her and she trusts me!
We are becoming an amazing team, I love this horse so much I wouldn’t trade her for anything, she really will be the one to bring me up threw the ranks in the jumper ring. I didn’t think we would get along this well in such a short period of time. My coach is amazing I couldn’t be where I am without her making the change to her barn in
September was the best decision I have ever made.
And my old original coach told me “don’t buy her, mares are horrible. You won’t be able to ride her, it’s too much work, when they go in season you can't ride them blah blah blah ” Just because her mare was a complete pain I really don’t think she should have said that but Oh well, not my coach anymore and my horse is amazing better than any gelding I’ve ever owned. I can’t wait for this show season and so excited for next year. I’m just sooo happy and I had no one else to share this with – Thanks for reading!!
