Exclamation Gets to Scared

I have started jumping on my horse and L-O-V-E IT!! But only after I jump it.
When im starting to trot,or run, it I get so scared, and I know my horse can feel it but I can't help it. I just imagine the worst thing happening. Can anyone please give me some advise on how to keep calm when im getting ready to jump so I can be able to look at a big jump and know that I can do it!! Please.

I used do the same a while back. To be honest what helped me is I just kept jumping/doing other fearful activites and eventually my mind calmed down, and if a situation did occur I was able to keep my head and work through it.

I was really scared of jumping a few years back. It helped me to think "Hey, I could walk over this on my own two feet! Of course we can jump this!" But that's just me.

Maybe try to not focus on the jump. Instead think about the jump as just another canter stride. If you can learn to jump straight out of the canter stride it makes jumps really smooth and much easier to ride.

Try not to look down at the jump when you are approaching it. Look over it towards the next jump. Let your horse focus on the jump, you just need to focus on the approach and landing. When you are jumping a jump you should already be mentally focused on the next jump ahead. It's hard to not look down, sometimes I still do it too, but it really helps.

Are you jumping just single jumps? For some reason, if you only have one fence in front of you, that's all you focus on. Try jumping grids, very low bounces spaced 9' apart. All you do is look ahead and maintain position. Horse does the rest. The thing is, they are so **** fun, you forget to get scared.

I was really nervous to start jumping this year, but once I started jumping, I am hooked, loads of fun.

I used to be really nervous with jumping once I started going over 2ft, plus I was on a generally hot and nervous horse which amplified things. What helped was an instructor that really, really pushed me and insisted that I ignore being scared and just go... it boosted my confidence a lot and now, as long as I'm on a horse that won't fall on their face (*cough*...my horse) I'm totally confident.
