Grid ideas?

Hello everyone,

So since I last posted things have gotten much better. I lowered the jumps and worked on my position and i'm getting much much better about not anticipating. So now what we're working on is me keeping my eyes up and helping Rocky learn to judge distances and pay attention to his feet. Thus, we've started doing some grid work. I love it. It helps me and him so much!

Now that I'm back at school and not with my trainer, she wants me to continue the grid work here. (I have a friend who shows hunter/jumpers that works on jumping with me while i'm at school). Right now i'm going to a one stride and then coming out of that 4 strides to another x rail (i hope I explained that right). I was wondering if you experienced jumpers had other grid patterns that helped you. Rocky gets bored very easy so I want to keep things interesting for him and not just do the same grid over and over. Any ideas?

My favorite is a ground pole placed 9' before a cross rail, and then another ground pole 9' on the other side and do it at the canter. It lets me just concentrate on keeping my position steady and it helps him use himself better since he had to collect his stride a bit to stay within the confines of the ground poles in each side.

Oh that's a good idea! I could definitely use the position work and he would benefit too. That'll keep him thinking through the exercise. Thanks for the idea
