I usually just hose their legs down well with cold water, then with my one mare I stretch her legs well because she has abit of arthritis. Then everyday I am always checking for lumps and bumps and any signs of heating in their legs just as routine.

Sometimes when they have a bad blow on a pole, I hose that spot with cold water for about 10 minutes and then rub them down nicely.

I always jump in open front for show hunter/jumping and closed front for Xcountry

depends on the ground conditions will depend on what I do afterwards...

In summer when the grounds hard she gets chilla boots on her front legs and usually a poultice like stay sound overnight.....

(Chiila boots are kinda like ice boots - but they cant get freezer burn or anything like that off them)

Otherwise if its not so hard - I sponge her legs down afterwards

I only use boots if I need them. For small jumps, if you horse dosen't interfere its overkill. Some of my trainers in the past have talked me out of wrapping especially for just flat work (typical w/t/c). I look at it this way, if they dont injure themselves out in the field they probably wont in the arena. Unless you are doing upper level movements.

How is it overkill? A horse has only so much jump in them, period - regardless if they are doing 2'0" fences or 4'6". Shock and impaction occurs regardless.

I always show jump with SMB's and after jumping i hose or sponge their legs down. then xc i just use leather boots as the SMB's heat up a bit, and once i'm done i use chilla boots.

and my ponies are stood in the river for 30mins every night. :)

I dont use boots unless im jumping cross country or jumping over 1.10ish or competing.

I usually just walk out untill they are well and truely cool (upto 30mins if need be) and then they have ice cold stay sound poultice on all four legs untill it drys off then I brush it off and they have there back on track wraps on and put away in the paddock.

Back on track wraps are the best purchase ive ever made.
