Ok this thread is more for people like Eventerdrew, MIEventer, StormyBlues, etc. who have known me on here for some time now! ;-)

For those who know our back story, can you critique this video of us? We just started cantering jumps (for those who don't know, we're both kinda green still and just started jumping back in April). The transition to the canter was rocky at best, I know, so ignore that! ;-) And I know Sandie kinda chipped in that last stride there, but how is her form and mine over the jump itself?

We've come a long way since April, but just trying to get even more feedback and improve our form even more! Have a new trainer we're working on groundwork with now, and will start jumping with her soon as well! Excited!!! :)

I think you have improved by miles! First of all, your form is a lot better. Your leg is pretty solid under you (though it still slips a bit, but I know it's a continuous thing people have to work on. Me included) compared to the first cross country schooling you guys did where we first saw you jump something over 18". You are right over the center of your horse and not jumping ahead which is nice to see. Your back is nice and flat without completely folding over. Even when your horse chipped in, you were still over her center, which tells me that you have a good sense of balance. Even after a hand surgery and some time off :D

The only thing I would suggest is that you release a bit more. While you didn't quite catch her in the mouth, it appeared to be pretty close. Just do a bit more of a release next time and I assure you, the feel of the jump will be 1000% better.

Sandie looks like a really cute little jumper. She doesn't have perfect form (who does?) as her lower leg is still hanging a bit but again, she's green. Her knees are even and up which is what really counts to me. Gridwork would be good for her because bounces and one strides would teach her to pick up her legs and even them out a bit. It will come in handy when you get to Beginner Novice stadium.

Overall, very nice. You are exactly where you need to be when jumping 2'3". I'm excited to hear what you do with this new trainer and your adventures next season!

Drew said basically it all but I do have one thing to add-

Ya'll are so cute!!!!!! haha! Sandie is just about the cutest thing ever, and you are AMAZING for just learning how to jump in april! I've really been working on my leg(which SUCKS!) latly! Can't wait to hear about your next season with your girl! Merry Christmas!

IMHO, you need to perfect your position on the flat a more before jumping a 2'3 vertical. work on stretching your heel down through your calf and bringing your toes in. to me it did look like you were jumping ahead a bit and are brining your bum too far out of the saddle. maybe work some x rails so you can concentrate more on your position and worry less about your horse until you both start feeling a little more confident (sincde your both a bit green you don't want ot overface yourself or your horse).

it also looks like you are riding with arms a bit too straight, remember to keep your elbows close to our body. riding with arms too straight makes you have to shorten your reins. which in turn makes you release improperly because you can not give enough rein/hand/arm.

Cute little pony though! you will be a solid jumper with practice :)

I'm so glad to see another video of you guys! I've missed them! Since I can't jump myself right now, I've been living vicariously through you two. haha
I'm totally envious that you have a coach that knows what he/she is doing and a horse that's not geriatric. Haha

Very very cute little pony!

Just release a bit more [I need to work on this lol]
and... Get you butt closer to your saddle. :P Your whole body was right over the horses neck in mid jump.. if you pause it right at 0:10

I dont know how you looked before but your on the right track! :D I like your lower leg! Seems pretty solid behind the girth, which is what I have a problems with.

Keep up the good work!
