Actually he started his career with his breeder as a hunter and eventually moved to the jumpers. I heard he ended up at the o'connor's because he was too difficult for his breeder to ride and everyone was surprised to see how successful he was with eventing.
I agree with CJ. Why does everyone know who Teddy is? B/C there aren't many ponies out there who are capable of jumping what the big guys can do. Regardless of "lack of breeders" or "people don't give them a chance". Believe me, if ponies had just as much of a chance you'd see more of them out there.
