I have a 17 year old Quarter horse gelding. He's a roping horse. I was wondering if he is to old to start jumping.

Depends on how he moves. But no he isnt to old.

Get him nice and supple and fit, and he should be fine. My horse is nearly 19 and we're still out competing at jumping comps

If he's in good shape then starting on some lower jumps should't be bad for him. And who knows if it all goes smoothly then maybe he can go up to some bigger fences. We had a 24 year old pony that was a lesson pony for a while and she was perfectly fine and she started jumpin at the age of 19 when we got her.

Age is not the real important thing. It depends on how he's moving and I would recommend starting cautiously and slowly. If he responds fine, then continue ;)
